The first whole lake alum treatment for Queens Mirror and South Lake Triplet is anticipated to begin next week. Each lake will take approximately one day to treat, and all work associated with the first treatment should be completed by 8/31/12. This schedule is subject to change pending weather conditions and other factors. Followup treatments will be conducted roughly every 3-6 months until a total of four treatments per lake have been completed. The City is requesting that lakefront residents limit any motorized boat activities to idle speed while alum is actively being applied via boat. Some intermittent disruptions to traffic on S Triplet Lake Drive can be expected, but the staff will attempt to schedule around peak periods, accounting for traffic generated by nearby schools. Detailed project information has been posted online at www.casselberry.org/lakes, and postcard notices were sent to all residents/owners on these two lakes earlier this week. It is anticipated this project will bind 1,241 pounds of phosphorus over a ten year period and should significantly improve water quality in these two lakes, as well as provide indirect benefits to downstream waterbodies.
