Construction of the Sunset Drive Livable Street Improvements Project began on March 6, 2023 and is expected to be completed within the next 12 months. This Federally-funded project will encompass the narrowing of travel lanes along Sunset Drive (from Oxford Road to Button Road), reconstruction of the northbound lane, milling and resurfacing, curb and gutter repair, installation of a shared-use path, utility modifications, landscaping, lighting, raised crosswalks, on-street parking at Sunset Park, Overbrook intersection improvements, and other complete street-oriented enhancements along the corridor. This work requires partial and, at times, complete closures of Sunset Drive in order to create a safe and efficient work area. This project is divided into multiple phases, with Phase 1 covering Button Road to Oak Park Place. Please Note: throughout construction, the northbound traffic on Sunset Drive will be closed to thru traffic and will remain closed until 3/31/23, followed by closing of the southbound traffic from 3/31/23 through 5/11/23. Please pay attention to traffic patterns and signage.
Update 3/23/23:
Currently, the City's contractor is working on Phase 1. During this phase, part of Sunset Drive (from Oak Park Place to Button Road) will be periodically closed to traffic. Drivers headed north will be detoured to US 17/92 via Button Road and traffic headed south will be detoured to Seminola Boulevard via Secret Way. Please see the attached map for a detailed view of changes to normal traffic patterns in the project area.
